STCW '95 BASIC SAFETY TRAINING

In a situation that is unique in the Maritime Training forum, IYT has been approved by the Republic of the Marshall Islands to act on its behalf and approve centers, facilities and instructors/assessors to offer the STCW '95 Basic Safety Training modules, based on and under the IYT Quality Management and Control System.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is a full member and signatory of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and STCW Basic Training Certificates issued by IYT on behalf of the Republic of the Marshall Islands are accepted for use in the Maritime Industry where such certificates are required to be held.

P.S.T. - Personal Survival Techniques Course.

Course durance = one and a half days.
The P.S.T. course is instructed in compliance to S.T.C.W. '95. Code A - VI/1-1 and consists of one day in the classroom covering subjects such as emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The theory part is followed by a written exam. The remainder of the course is spent in a swimming pool performing the simulation of abandon ship procedures. The practical exercises are subject to an ongoing assessment by an fully qualified instructor.


F.P. - Fire Prevention Course.

Course durance = two days.
The F.P. course is instructed in compliance to S.T.C.W. '95 Code A - VI/1-2 including shipboard fire fighting organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarization. The theory part is followed by a written exam. Candidates will then fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, practical instruction taught by licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. The practical exercises are subject to ongoing assessment by an fully qualified instructor.


F.A. - First Aid and CPR.

Course durance = one day.
The F.A. course is instructed in compliance to S.T.C.W. '95 Code A - VI/1-3 and consists of approximately seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. The theory part is followed by a written exam and the practical exercises are subject to ongoing assessment by an fully qualified instructor.

P.S.S.R. - Personal Safety and Social Responsibility.

Course durance = half a day.
The P.S.S.R. course is instructed to STCW '95 Code A - VI/1-4. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices. The course is followed by a written exam.
