Why is the MCA & USG recognition so important ?

The "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons" courses and qualifications are recognised by both the British "Maritime and Coastguard Agency" (MCA), and the United States Coastguard (USCG).
Approximately 80% of the worlds luxury megayacht fleet are British or American flagged which efectively gives both the MCA and the USCG control.
For any professional, an "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons" qualification is essential to have for this reason.

Who are International Yachtmaster Training ?

"International Yachtmaster Training" or IYT for short, are based in Fort Lauderdale, USA; the world center for the luxury superyacht and megayacht industry.
They specialise in the training of professional crews, skippers and captains, as well as researching and developing training programmes for recreational mariners.
Their strict management quality control is certificated by the Scandinavian Det Norske Veritas.

What is STCW 95 ?

S.T.C.W'95 or "Standards of Training, Certiication and Watchkeeping '95." is required by all member countries of the International Marine Organisation (IMO) for all professional mariners, working on any flagged member countries boats and ships.
It lays down minimal safety training standards and is required for all "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons" qualifications.

What about finding work as a crew, skipper or captain ?

"IYT" maintain a central database of all qualified "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons", as well as having a career division which is only available for IYT students candidates. The IYT career division actively finds positions as well as having a list of available positions vacancies on super yachts and megayachts worldwide who are looking for crews, skippers and captains.

Do you mix people with different levels of experience ?

Normally we do not as a rule.
There are several good reasons why we do not like doing it. For one it is difficult for your instructor to teach two syllabuses at once; another is that everybody learns at different speeds and some of us, need to go over the same subject several times; and the last is to ensure that by the end of the course, you really can do what the piece of paper says you can!

Can I choose when and where to do courses ?

Yes you can, all the "IYT" training courses are in modules, which can be taken at any of the IYT approved training establishments worldwide. So you can do your STCW95 training in Fort Lauderdale, do your "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons" theory in Durban, and your "IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons" practical with us in Spain. As with all the IYT approved establishments, we welcome you for complete modules or just part modules; to fit in with your schedule.

How do I certify my seatime and experience ?

To certify your seatime and experience, you need to obtain an "IYT Logbook" from us, which you need to fill in, showing your experience and mileage and passages. You can also submit to us signed references from past positions or voyages.
We have to submit to IYT copies of references and your logbook for approval, before you can qualify.

What is the difference between IYT and other training organisations ?

Unlike other training organisations, "International Yachtmaster Training" or IYT for short, encourages you to develop your very own boating skills, opinions and judgements, with a strong emphasis placed upon "safety at sea."
Furthemore they do not tell you "this is the correct and only way" nor do they prejudge you for "thinking or doing something in a different way." Above all, IYT as a training organisation, is not influenced by local or national opinions.
