I am a complete beginner, where do I begin ?
Well......we were all beginners at one time! The problem is that
so many forget what it is like to be one! Often people's first
experience with boating, is by invitation with a well meaning boat
owner friend, but frequently the beginner has a bad experience or
lacks confidence, and takes up golf instead. Well before you
rush off to the 19th hole, maybe we have the solution, the "International
Crew Certificate" course. more
info ...
Take note, maybe we have the solution! Because before learning
anything on a boat, you must feel confident and relaxed, and this
is what this fun course is designed to do before going on to do
other things.
Who are International Yachtmaster Training ?
"International Yachtmaster Training" or IYT for short,
are based in Fort Lauderdale, USA; the world center for the luxury
superyacht and megayacht industry. They specialise in the
training of professional crews, skippers and captains, as well as
researching and developing training programmes for recreational
mariners. Their strict management quality control is
certificated by the Scandinavian Det Norske Veritas.
Do you do any yacht racing courses ?
Yes we do, as an academy we have developed several highly
specialised courses for the cruiser-racer type crews and skippers
(they are not IYT approved courses, simply because IYT do not wish
to be involved with yacht racing). There are lots of go-fast
yacht racing courses out there, and some are very good; but there
are no specialised safety or crew technique courses for the
cruising-racing sailor. The course emphasis is on safety in
racing and boat and sails/equipment handling techniques for
cruiser-racer crews and skippers. more
info ...
These courses may not make you the fastest sailor around, but
they will teach you to race safely, to prevent accidents happening
and show you how to avoid incurring damage to the sails and
equipment on board as well as to the boat itself.

Are the IYT recreational courses internationally recognised ?
Yes they are, worldwide. The IYT International Bareboat
Certificates are also recognised by all the major yacht chartering
companies. Talking of yacht chartering, if you have already
been on a boat several times and feel quite confident, why not
consider the "International bareboat Watchkeeper/Flotilla
Skipper Certificate ?" more
info ...
It is a very enjoyable course and covers all the essential
aspects of flotilla boating or independent boating on your own, as
well as the more serious aspects of being a watchkeeper on bigger
boats.
What are the IYT Yacht Master courses ?
The "IYT Yacht Master" courses are professional
courses for the recreational mariner. They are courses
especially designed for the advanced recreational mariner who is
looking for professional training, but without having to qualify
as an professional mariner. more
info ...
The "IYT Yacht Master" courses are based upon the
professional "IYT Master of Yachts 200 Tons" courses but
have been adapted for the needs of the recreational mariner.
What is the difference between IYT and other training
organisations ?
Unlike other training organisations, "International
Yachtmaster Training" or IYT for short, encourages you to
develop your very own boating skills, opinions and judgements,
with a strong emphasis placed upon "safety at sea."
Furthemore they do not tell you "this is the correct and
only way" nor do they prejudge you for "thinking or
doing something in a different way." Above all, IYT as a
training organisation, is not influenced by local or national
opinions. |
I am already qualified, but I am lacking confidence, how can
you help me ?
Quite a common problem, one thing is to get the
piece of paper, the other the practical knowledge and experience. If
you do have some experience, then do consider seriously doing the
"International Bareboat Captain/Skipper Certificate." more
info...
It is an ideal course for those of you looking to be shown
specific things and for strengthening any doubts or weaknesses you
may have.
Do you mix people with different levels of experience ?
Normally we do not as a rule. There are several good reasons
why we do not like doing it. For one it is difficult for your
instructor to teach two syllabuses at once; another is that
everybody learns at different speeds and some of us, need to go
over the same subject several times; and the last is to ensure
that by the end of the course, you really can do what the piece of
paper says you can!
Can I choose when and where to do courses ?
Yes you can, all the IYT recreational training courses are in
modules, which can be taken at any of the IYT approved training
establishments worldwide. So you can do modules 1-4 of the "IYT
International Bareboat Crew Certificate" in Croatia, and to
finish your training, do the remaining modules 5-6 of the same
course with us in Spain. As with all the IYT approved
establishments, we welcome you for complete modules or just part
modules; to fit in with your schedule.
Do you do private tuition ?
Yes we do upon request. Some people prefer to learn by
themselves, or amongst friends or family. Costs vary depending on
where, when, the boat and the number of students candidates. Do
contact us with your enquiries.
